The mission of the Teenage Parenting Programs of Arlington Public Schools is to provide leadership for collaborative, comprehensive services for pregnant and parenting teenagers in Arlington County.
The program does this by addressing the issues of adolescent pregnancy including educational needs, pregnancy prevention, teenage parenting, and healthy families.
What many parents consider to be "common knowledge" is often unfamiliar to teenage parents. Adolescent parents face an overwhelming number of difficulties which include the obvious teenage pressures as well as parental pressures. Combined, they require more than just support and understanding. Mature, adult decisions are required of the emotionally pressured adolescents who are not only managing to care for an infant, but also devoting adequate time to schoolwork. These are all great challenges for parenting teens.
